More precise control—current steps are too large. Auto-focus has much finer steps.

This is a big one for me. I literally cannot fill my screen because one click of the zoom either is not big enough or overspills my screen, an image expansion of a couple inches per click.

The increment of 1.4m for sweet spot sharpness when zoom for each step in the focus click is too large.
I can't get mine to be in exact spot so if the bottom of my screen is sharp then the top will be softer, vice versa.

Yeah, it's difficult to find that sweet spot. There is also some focus drift between power cycles so refocusing is sometimes required.
